Drum line is a year-long course that gives students the opportunity to explore this high-intensity style of percussion.  The course is aimed at developing percussion technique, reading and interpreting music, mastering basic and intermediate rudiments, and ultimately performing cadences in front of a variety of school and public audiences.

Course attendance requirements include both practices and performances.  Because Bateman Drum line is a continuation of the Clayburn Middle Drum line Program, course participants should have at least 2 years of experience playing percussion. As an alternative, students who have a strong music background in a different instrument (with strong music reading skills) may also be accepted.

Auditions for a spot in Drum line will take place in the Spring for the following school year. Auditions should showcase the student’s percussion skills in the areas of tempo (steady), technique, dynamics, rhythm, and musicality. Students who have no percussion background can audition on an instrument that showcases the same skills listed above.

This is an extended-day course.
