RBSS Newsletter January 17, 2025

January 17, 2025

Good morning,

Bateman is rebranding our 40 minute, twice-weekly learning time as LET: Learning Enhancement Time.  This is a purposeful name change is intended to reinforce the “why” of this time: LET is about re-teaching, re-learning, connecting with supports, and extending learning.  It’s not a flexible time to hang out on social media, snack, or chat with friends.  It’s not recess.  It is a learning enrichment time.  While many students use this time well, many do not.  It’s time for a shift in perspective.

Like our Learning Enhancement Days throughout the year, LET is a chance for:

  • Students who are academically thriving to stretch their mental muscle with like-minded peers in self-directed groups
  • Students who need time in their day to receive one-on-one help in LSS, Marvel, and Bridges
  • Students who need time to plan for Foundry, Leadership, and Culture Club initiatives
  • Teams to meet to discuss strategy with their coach
  • Study groups to meet and work together
  • Students to address missed learning opportunities with their subject teacher

LET is intended to enhance your child’s opportunities for learning at Bateman.  Students who are self-motivated will have lots of freedom to choose how to spend LET.  Students who struggle to manage their time and don’t seek help when they need it will be either held in first block or be directed to attend certain classes by teachers.

If you have any questions about how LET is being used by your child at Bateman, please contact their teacher, coach, club leader, support worker, counsellor, or administrator.  We are all invested in LET and will be happy to get in touch with you!

Stay safe,

Mrs. Jennifer Koehler

Principal, Robert Bateman Secondary School
