Home of the Timberwolves

Robert Bateman Secondary School has a rich tradition of inspiring excellence in students, since 1993.  Situated in east Abbotsford, B.C., Robert Bateman Secondary currently enrolls approximately 1000 students in grades 9-12.  Bateman offers a diverse array of programs to meet the needs of our students, including academics, applied skills, fine arts and athletics. Some of our unique programs are: Advanced Placement (AP), Golf academies, MARVEL - an anxiety program, Musical Theatre, Broadcasting,  Career and Trades Programs, International Program, Learning Support Services, English Langauge Learners, Sports Specific Training, Link Crew and Student Leadership. The school supports a rich culture of learning through collaboration, that is reflected throughout the school community and the continual expansion of opportunities for learning and helping students discover their passions in life. We have a diverse student body which lends itself to a well-rounded educational experience.

Bateman’s motto “Eye to Eye with Respect” is more than just a statement, but a belief that is a guiding principle in the school culture. Teachers provide multiple opportunities for learning through both formative and summative assessments, giving students the tools to succeed as learners.  Our staff are embracing the move towards more inquiry in our classrooms as we continue to challenge our students to grow in all the areas of their core competencies (communication, collaboration, creativity, being critical and reflective, personal awareness and responsibility, personal, and cultural identity, and social awareness and responsibility).  In a commitment to lifelong learning, staff also participate in collaborative professional development (Staff Learning Opportunities / SLO) where we are working on inquiry in passionate areas to better their own professional development and practice.  Our staff are embracing the new B.C. curriculum as they help to develop our new district initiatives: blended learning, student voice, and social emotional learning.
