Flood Update - December 11, 2025

The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a flood warning for the Abbotsford area due to heavy rain expected over the next 24 hours, and the City of Abbotsford has declared a State of Local Emergency. There is an evacuation order for Sumas Prairie West and evacuation alerts for Sumas Prairie East and Clayburn Village. This is a changing situation, and conditions can shift quickly.
Currently, Semá:th Elementary will be closed Thursday, December 11, 2025. Some bus routes are being rerouted due to road closures, and there may be a slight delay in pick up time or school drop off times.
Following the significant flooding experienced in 2021, all local agencies continue to work closely together to ensure early notice and timely communication. We are sharing this message for awareness and preparedness, not to cause alarm.
What this means
Heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours.
Rising water levels is affecting low-lying areas and some roadways in and around Abbotsford and surrounding communities.
The City of Abbotsford is actively monitoring conditions and responding as needed.
Evacuation notices and school impacts
If your neighbourhood is affected by an evacuation alert or order, the City of Abbotsford will communicate directly with residents. There is an evacuation order for Sumas Prairie West and evacuation alerts for Sumas Prairie East and Clayburn Village. Semá:th Elementary will be closed Thursday, December 11, 2025.
If further school operations or bus services are impacted, the Abbotsford School District will contact affected families directly as soon as possible.
